Angelhands of Northeast Ohio and Empowering the Poor. Org. are Sponsoring a Walk for Malaria Drive 2007-Cuyahoga & Summit Counties (Virtual) and in Fredricksburg, VA (actual walk April 22, 2007)


We want to:

Raise funds to enhance literacy and education in our targets communities. Because malaria is a disease of poverty and a cause of poverty

WHAT IS MALARIA?

 

Malaria is caused  by infection of red blood cells with protozoan parasites of the genus plasmodium. The parasites are inoculated i o the human host by the female anopheles mosquito. (World Health Organization)

Symptoms

 The classic symptoms include:

Persistent fever, shivering, joint pains, headaches, repeated vomiting, muscular aches, weakness, diarrhea, and cough.

 

Untreated malaria causes renal failure, hypoglycemia, anemia, pulmonary edema, coma, and death.  Malaria can be cured if promptly diagnosed and adequately treated.
 

IMPACT OF MALARIA:

Raise Funds to provide 5000 insecticide treated bed nets, anti malaria drugs, and train women as health educators in our target communities, particularly Princes Town, Accra, Gbawe and Essiama)
